Crimes against Persons and Property:
The Investigation Division, led by Sergeant Becker-Schutte, is assigned to actively investigate any reports
submitted by the Patrol Division that effect crimes against persons, crimes against property and
narcotics violations. The Investigation Division is organized to allow detectives to specialize in
specific areas of expertise such as interview and interrogation, computer crimes, sex crimes,
Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA), clandestine laboratory investigations, street level narcotics
investigations, neighborhood watch programs, as well as a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan
Major Case Squad.
General Investigations:
The Investigation Division will prepare any criminal case assigned to them by
putting into logical, sequential form all of the facts that can be obtained concerning the case
by any evidence located at a crime scene or through the use of interviews of victims, witness and
any suspect(s) involved with the investigation. The case will then be forwarded to the Cass County
Prosecuting Attorney's Office where the case is reviewed and a decision is made as to what criminal
charge will be filed.
Narcotics Division:
The Narcotics Division will
investigate all drug complaints and violations. This is done by numerous investigative techniques,
as well as maximizing high profile attention to drug houses and offenders. The Narcotics Division
follows up on all reported complaints received from the public and will continue to work with the
citizens of Cass County to effectively resolve any drug related issue.
Evidence:
The Investigation Division has incorporated a well structured Property and Evidence Management
System that maintains the care, custody and control of any property received by the Sheriff's
Office and preserves the any evidence needed for prosecution. A state of the art bar coding
system is utilized to manage the over 10,000 pieces of property and evidence to eliminate the
possibility of property or evidence becoming lost or misplaced.
