NASA Training
Cass Co. – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. Unit recently held training for teachers
in several school districts from Cass County. The training is part of this year’s theme for the
DARE Unit, “Reach for the Stars, Not for Drugs.” The one-day event was taught by NASA Education
Specialist Ollie Bogdon and included lessons on the solar system, life of a star, rockets, and
careers and connections with NASA. The training, which is part of the Kansas City Regional
Professional Development Center, helps teachers incorporate new learning ideas that are included
in their grade level expectations. The Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. Unit hosted the training as part
of its space theme for 2008-2009.
“This gives us, as D.A.R.E. Officers, an opportunity to work with teachers and students outside of
a typical D.A.R.E. lesson. Rockets, space, and NASA are interesting to students. By having this
training and working with these teachers we increase the amount of time and impact we have together
on kids,” said D.A.R.E. Officer Christine Eddleman
Teachers from the Pleasant Hill, Drexel, Cass Midway, East Lynne, Strasburg, and Sherwood School
Districts participated.
