Kansas Teen Charged in Shooting Paintballs from Vehicle
18 year old Blake E. Winchester of Overland Park Kansas was charged today with Third Degree Assault after he was arrested on Tuesday in Cleveland Missouri by Cass County Deputies.
Around 5:45pm Tuesday deputies were dispatched to the area of State Route D and State Route W after receiving a report that a passenger in a car was struck in the neck by a paintball that was shot from a passing vehicle on the highway. The victim followed the suspect's vehicle to a gas station in Cleveland where local police stood by until Cass County Deputies arrived on the scene.
The victim, a 39 year old man from Cleveland, was treated and released at the scene for his injuries. A second victim also contacted Deputies about the incident. The 45 year old Drexel man stated that his vehicle had been shot by a paintball from the same vehicle at approximately the same time. That victim saw the suspect throw the paintball gun from the vehicle and helped lead deputies to the area where it was recovered.
"One man was injured and we know of at least two other vehicles shot in this incident and there may be more. We are fortunate that this ended before someone was seriously injured or in an accident" said Sheriff Dwight Diehl
Winchester was a passenger in the vehicle that he was allegedly shooting from. No charges were filed against a second passenger or the driver of the vehicle. Winchester is being held in the Cass County Jail on $7,500.00 bond. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this incident should contact the Cass County Sheriff's Office at 816-380-5200.
