Man Arrested in Pursuit

"We will continue to make career criminals who come to Cass County feel unwelcomed. This is another great example of Deputies working every day to Keep Cass County Safe." Sheriff Jeff Weber

Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office arrested a Kansas City man following a pursuit that began in Clinton, Missouri.

Around 12:45 am, deputies were notified of a vehicle pursuit involving the Clinton Police Department and Henry County Sheriff's Office on 7 Highway near Creighton. A few minutes later, a deputy with the Cass County Criminal Apprehension Unit located the vehicle on F Highway near Dayton, Missouri. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle the driver fled north at speeds over 100 mph. Deputies continued pursuing the subject north on 7 Highway where officers with the Harrisonville Police Department assisted.

The driver continued north on Interstate 49 at speeds over 120 mph. An officer with the Peculiar Police Department was able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device south of Peculiar on I-49. The driver then stopped his vehicle, fled on foot, and was captured moments later. A passenger in the vehicle was questioned and released at the scene.

A search of the vehicle revealed a firearm and narcotics. Deputies also recovered numerous power tools with store security tags attached. Investigators are working to determine the owner of the tools.

The driver, Brandon M. Modrak, 26, Grandview was arrested for driving while revoked and several active warrants:
