Four People Arrested in Two Pursuits Overnight

Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were involved in two pursuits overnight that resulted in four people arrested.
Around 8:20 pm on Monday, deputies assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Belton Police with a vehicle refusing to stop on northbound I-49 near Peculiar Way. The vehicle exited at Belton and continued to East 163rd St. The driver continued east on 163rd and crashed at the intersection of E. 163rd and Kentucky Road.
The driver fled on foot and a passenger taken into custody. A Cass County Sheriff’s Office K9 team tracked the driver and located him hiding in a field near the scene. The subject surrendered and arrested without further incident. Both subjects were released to the custody of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Around 12:30 am on Tuesday, deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit attempted to stop a white SUV pulling a trailer in the area of E. 289th and Jones Rd west of Harrisonville. For nearly 20 minutes, deputies followed the vehicle west on gravel roads at speeds between 20-50 mph. As the pursuit reached S. St. Rt. O, south of Freeman the driver turned south. Deputies deployed a tire deflation device bringing the vehicle to a stop in the area of East 319th Street. When the vehicle stopped a passenger fled on foot and was caught by deputies. The driver was taken into custody.
“These examples of career criminals, who resist arrest, and continue to victimize our communities, highlight the failures of our criminal justice system to protect our citizens. The passenger, John A. Howe, 30, Harrisonville, is in custody for the following warrants:
