Suspect Hits Patrol Car Fleeing In Stolen Vehicle

04-17-20Around 12:15 am Friday, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Unit and Pleasant Hill Police Officers located and attempted to stop a stolen 2011 Chevy Malibu on 7 Highway near E. 163rd in Pleasant Hill.

The driver fled at a high rate of speed east on 163rd Street from deputies. The driver of the vehicle then lost control of the vehicle and drove off the roadway at the intersection of S. Knorp Road into the yard of a residence. The driver reversed the car and struck a Sheriff’s Office patrol car and continued driving into a field where the vehicle crashed into a wooded area.

Sheriff Deputies and Pleasant Hill Officers took the driver and passenger into custody. The driver, Curtis J. McClain, 29, Independence Missouri, was arrested on five warrants from Independence Police.

A passenger in the vehicle was questioned and released.

Curtis McClain was charged today with class D Felony of Tampering With Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, class E Felony Resisting Arrest by Fleeing, and class D Misdemeanor of Driving While Revoked. McClain was issued a Signature (ROR) bond.

Damage to the patrol vehicle was reported as minor. No deputies were injured.
