Multi Agency Crack Down on Impaired Driving

From documentation collected from the Missouri Department of Transportation in regard to vehicle crashes, traffic counts and the rapid growing population in the southwest area of Jackson County and northwest area of Cass County a driving while impaired check point was conducted at the Jackson and Cass County line on Holmes Road in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday May 2nd.
The operation is a joint task force operation between the Cass County Safety Traffic Enforcement Program and Jackson County Traffic Safety Task Force.
It is the goal to conduct these check points so it will educate the community about impaired driving and to curb the driving behavior of motorists using the roadways in Cass and Jackson County. The goal will also deliver a message to the community that we as law enforcement agencies are in fact addressing these issues.
During the operation there were a total of 13 arrest. Six of those arrest were for Driving While Intoxicated.
“It’s never worth the risk to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drivers could lose their license, pay large fines, or worst of all, cause a tragic loss of life”, said Cass County Sheriff Dwight Diehl.
In 2007, 243 people died in more than 7,700 alcohol-related traffic crashes, resulting in a death or injury every 1.7 hours. Sheriff Diehl says “We are all part of the solution and please consider the following tips:
