On 05-30-11, Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 20200 block of S. Lee Road near Pleasant Hill Monday around 1050 hr. after receiving a call that the homeowner had interrupted a burglary at his residence.

The homeowner, who had been gone for just 45 minutes, returned to his residence where he found a strange car parked in his driveway with a female inside. While talking to the woman the homeowner saw 3 people climb out a window and run from his house. The homeowner called 911 and then blocked the suspect’s vehicle from leaving the area. Deputies arrived within minutes of the call and found the homeowner blocking the suspect’s vehicle on the road.

Cass County Deputies with the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol closed off the area to search for the suspects. At approximately 2:30pm deputies received a call about two subjects walking behind the Hickory Grove Church about a mile east of the burglary location. Deputies responded to that area and found two white males matching the description in a field. After taking the subjects into custody a neighbor flagged down deputies and advised them that a white male was walking down E. 203rd street asking for a ride into town. Deputies quickly found that person and took him into custody.

Four people have been charged in the incident. They are John R. Baker, 24, Raymore; David S. Bundy Jr. 24, Peculiar; Jonathan R. Jackson 26, Kansas City, MO and Ashly B. Spencer 24, Lee’s Summit. All four were charged this afternoon with Burglary 1st Degree and Theft/Stealing of any firearm. All four are in custody at the Cass County Jail on $25,000 bond each.

“Burglaries can happen any time of the day or night. If someone sees something out of the ordinary we encourage them to call and report it,” Sheriff Diehl said. The public is reminded that information about crime prevention, house watches, and Neighborhood Watch is located HERE.
