Suspect Charged in Murder of Cleveland Man

Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday June 4, 2016 deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 400 block of South 3rd St. in Cleveland, Missouri regarding an assault. Deputies arrived on the scene and found two men with serious and life threatening injuries. Both men were transported to metro area hospitals. Jeffrey E. Denton 44, of Cleveland Missouri was pronounced dead at the hospital. Terry J. McIntire 33, Cleveland was treated for serious injuries at another metro hospital.
Sunday June 5, 2016 the Cass County Prosecutor charged Jamie L. C. Murray 28, Cleveland, with Murder Second Degree in the death of Jeffrey Denton. Investigators believe that Denton was part of a group walking on South 3rd Street in Cleveland and became involved in an altercation with Murray who was driving a vehicle on the same street. McIntire, a passenger in the vehicle was assaulted during the incident. That investigation is continuing.
Murray is currently in custody at the Cass County Jail with a $150,000 cash bond.
