Officer Involved Shooting In Bates County

Investigators from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bates County late Sunday night to conduct an investigation of an officer involved shooting.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office works in cooperation with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Bates County Sheriff’s Office to use specially trained deputies to investigate major incidents, to include officer-involved shootings. The use of outside agencies help to ensure a transparent Investigation and multi-agency cooperation.

Victim and Suspect Identified

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of an abduction in Bates County last night as Bridgett L. Burriss, 40, of Warsaw, Missouri. It was reported that Burriss was abducted and when stopped by law enforcement she was shot by Donald L. Hunter, 39, Warsaw. Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene and Burriss was transported to an area hospital.

Burriss is no longer hospitalized. Two Bates County Deputies and one Adrian Police Officer are currently on routine administrative leave while the incident is being investigated.

More information will be made available as the investigation continues. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation as part of the Western Missouri Sheriff’s Critical Incident Investigation Team.
