Suspect Identified in Overnight Pursuit

08-07-20Thursday night around 10:00pm deputies attempted to stop a stolen truck in the area of E. 171st and Wheatland west of Belton. The driver fled north on Holmes Road. At the intersection of Blue Ridge and State Line, the suspect failed to stop for the stop sign and was struck by a vehicle traveling south.

Three subjects ran from the stolen vehicle, two were apprehended immediately. The driver fled on foot. Officers from Kansas City Police, Leawood, and Olathe assisted at the scene and searching the area. A search by K9 was unable to locate that subject.

Deputies have been able to identify that subject as Blake A. McCauley, 23, Belton Missouri. McCauley is currently wanted on numerous felony warrants in Cass and Jackson County that include four previous charges for tampering with a motor vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported by a family member to be evaluated. The crash was investigated by the Leawood Police Department.

Subject Taken Into Custody

On 08-10-20, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received word that the Overland Park Police Department has taken Mr. McCauley into custody. Mr. McCauley is currently being held in Kansas and is awaiting extradition back to the State of Missouri where he will face charges for this incident.
