Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends at Airport

08-08-19On Thursday August 8, 2019 around 12:00 p.m. the Cass County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a stolen vehicle being pursued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol near Creighton Missouri. Responding deputies were advised that the vehicle was stolen from Henry County. Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and Missouri State Highway Patrol continued pursuing the 2003 Ford F250 northbound on S. St. Rt. 7 from Creighton.

A Cass County Deputy and Officers with the Harrisonville Police Department were able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices south of Harrisonville on S. St. Rt. 7 as the vehicle approached I-49.

The driver then drove the vehicle south from 7 Hwy and Orchard Road onto the Lawrence Smith Memorial Airport in Harrisonville. The driver drove down the runway for a short distance and into the field area parallel to the runway at which time deputies brought the vehicle to a stop.

The driver, Joshua J. Chun, 36, Lee’s Summit, was taken into custody without further incident. A firearm was recovered in the vehicle. Mr. Chun was evaluated and released by EMS at the scene.

Airport operations were stopped for about two hours while officers removed the vehicle and tire debris was removed from the runway.

Mr. Chun was transported to the Cass County Jail on several warrants including:

  • Parole Violation, State of Missouri, NO Bond
  • Failure to Appear Traffic X3, Jackson County, $2000
  • Charges related to today’s incident are pending.
