Thursday August 20, 2006

10:13 p.m.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call to the area of 12000 E. 249th reference shots fired. Information was given at that time that Nathan Wasmer fired a shot into the air and walked into a house and stated that he was going to kill himself.

Deputies responded to the scene, however Mr. Wasmer had left prior to their arrival.

10:23 p.m.
Based on information deputies received they responded to a residence on S. Southfork Dr near E. 319th St. in Drexel Missouri. Deputies contacted a female there that denied Mr. Wasmer was there.

11:14 p.m.
Deputies in the area of 319th/Southfork believed that the suspect was inside the residence and secured a perimeter at which time the Cass County Tactical Unit was activated to respond.

11:53 p.m.
Deputies securing the scene observed a subject in the wooded area near the house who they believed to be Nathan Wasmer. The subject got in a vehicle parked in the woods and left the scene. Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers assisting attempted to catch the vehicle but the vehicle couldn’t be located.

When deputies tried to recontact the occupants of the residence they were confronted by a white male who exited the house and approached TAC Team members securing the perimeter. The residence was entered by the Cass County Tactical Team and one subject Shirley A. Bryson 08/16/1953 was arrested on a $15,000 Felony Hindering Prosecution warrant issued in Cass County.

Friday August 18, 2006

7:53 a.m.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of 251st and S. St. Rt. C just south of Peculiar. A witness to the accident advised 9-1-1 dispatchers that the two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot and were armed with guns. Following the accident the two white males attempted to car jack a passing motorist, but were unsuccessful. Cass County deputies and assisting officers from the Peculiar Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the area and located the two subjects running through a nearby farm field. The two were chased into a small subdivision were officers lost contact with them. Deputies then attempted to make contact with a subject matching the suspect’s description in the 24800 block of S. King. The subject barricaded himself in the residence and refused to contact deputies.

9:04 p.m.

10:05 p.m.
After approximately a one hour stand off one subject surrendered to deputies. That subject was identified as Nathan M. Wasmer, 27 of Peculiar Missouri. He was wanted on several outstanding warrants in Cass and Jackson County.

10:34 p.m.
Approximately a half hour later the second subject was located nearby hiding a yard. He was also taken into custody. He is the suspect in the case being investigated near Drexel Missouri.

During an interview with the second subject, now identified as Michael Lee Shaver Jr. w/m 09-01-1972, stated that he had knowledge of human remains on the property.

5:30 p.m.
A search warrant for the property located at 31125 S. Southfork Dr was issued and served. 5 pieces of bone fragment were recovered from the scene and on Saturday Dr. Michael Finnegan from Kansas State University confirmed the remains as human. At that time we believed the remains to be from two separate individuals and had information that as many as six victims could be found at the location.

Excavation at the site as continued throughout the day.

4:45 p.m.
Just a short time ago a warrant was issued for Michael Lee Shaver Jr. for Murder in the First Degree.
