Assault Suspect Charged

09-16-19Cass County Deputies and Belton Police took one subject into custody on Friday afternoon around 4:30 pm after responding to a call of an assault at Snead’s BBQ at Holmes and 58 Hwy.

An employee of the restaurant stated that unknown subject in the parking lot who asked to use his phone approached him. The employee allowed the subject to use his cell phone and then went inside. Approximately 15 minutes later the employee returned to the parking lot where the subject again asked to use his phone. The victim handed his cellphone to the subject. The victim reported that the subject began punching him repeatedly with his fist. The victim got away and went inside the restaurant. Another employee attempted to locate the subject but could not find him.

Belton Police arrived on the scene and secured the area. The Criminal Apprehension Unit and K9 Team conducted a search for the suspect and located him hiding under fuel holding tanks at the business next door. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for serious injuries sustained in the attack.

The Cass County Prosecutor charged Deric C. Wedlock, 32, Kansas City MO with Class A Felony Assault 1st Degree – Serious Physical Injury. His bond has been set at $25,000.00 Cash Only. Wedlock is currently in custody at the Cass County Jail.
