At around 1:40 a.m. on Monday a Cass County Sheriff Deputy was involved in a vehicle pursuit that started at 171st and Holmes Rd near Belton. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation at which time the vehicle, white Ford F-350 with a box trailer began to flee.

The pursuit continued west into Johnson County Kansas, where law enforcement in that jurisdiction were involved in a search for a subject in an unrelated vehicle pursuit where shots had been fired at the officers and the subject fled on foot around 177th/Rosewood St.

Assisting law enforcement used Stop Stick tire deflation devices and they were able to damage the tires on the box trailer.

The pursuit continued on Mission Road near 179th Street. At 145th and Mission Road the fleeing vehicle and trailer struck an unoccupied Leawood Police car. As the trailer passed 127th Street on Mission road, the trailer’s axle came off, but the pickup continued fleeing northbound, dragging the trailer on the pavement.

Eventually around 2:00 a.m. the driver ended up in the parking lot of Church of Nativity Catholic Parish, 3800 W. 119th Street. As the driver tried to maneuver around the parking lot, the tireless trailer flipped onto its side. The driver, identified only as a white male with brown hair, fled northeast on foot into the surrounding area. An area search with a police K9 unit was unable to locate the fleeing subject.

Cass County Investigators are working to identify the driver and owner of the truck and trailer. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 816-380-5200.
