Deputies Recover over $25,000 in Stolen Property

Two people are in custody and have been charged with receiving over $25,000 in stolen property. On Tuesday night Deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit stopped a vehicle with South Carolina license plates for a traffic violation. Deputies contacted the driver and passenger, 25-year-old Andres Castano-Rios a Colombia national and 26-year-old Deanna Vargas a Mexican national who both gave a New York address. After talking with the two and receiving different information about their travels deputies became suspicious.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found several large duffle bags full of clothing with price tags and security devices still attached. Deputies also found bags made to defeat store security systems and detection devices in the vehicle.

Investigators spent Wednesday inventorying the property recovered which included items from Victoria Secrets, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and several other name brand clothing designers. In total deputies inventoried almost 1000 items valued at more than $25,000. Investigators have determined that the thefts were from the Springfield and Branson areas and Cass County Detectives are now working with those departments.

Castano-Rios and Vargas have each been charged with Receiving Stolen Property are currently in custody in the Cass County Jail on $15,000 bond. Both are set to appear in court on May 20.
