Cass County Begins COVID-19 Testing of First Responders

On Tuesday employees of the Sheriff's Office participated in the first round of COVID-19 antibody testing given to first responders in Cass County. "Our employees are on the front line everyday taking care of our citizens. During this pandemic, it is important that I take care of their health. Testing is a major component to ensure the health of our staff and community." Said Sheriff Jeff Weber.

Under the direction of the Cass County Health Department and Kevin Latinis, M.D., Ph.D., three Cass County Sheriff's Office EMTs received training on the test procedures and collection. The test requires a blood sample that is obtained through a simple finger prick. The testing is part of the task force project led by Presiding Cass County Commissioner Bob Huston to provide access to COVID-19 testing. "These test are an important part of working together with our community and protecting our first responders in the field. These people are our family, friends and neighbors, together we are #casscountystrong," said Commissioner Bob Huston.

The Sheriff's Office tested over 100 employees in the first two days that included deputies, dispatchers, and court security personnel. The test will be sent for testing and the results are returned in around 24 hours.
