Criminal Apprehension Unit

The Criminal Apprehension Unit (CAU) was formed to enhance the Sheriff’s Office capabilities by providing specialized and directed patrol assignments, surveillance, fugitive apprehension, and other law enforcement functions. The CAU is a proactive unit of deputies designed to seek out recidivist and/or violent criminals who present a threat to the community. The unit also works other special investigations as directed by the Sheriff.

Deputies assigned to the CAU receive additional training in multiple areas of criminal investigations. The CAU utilizes specialized equipment, such as the “grappler” to improve safety and efficiency during investigation and apprehension of those that would prey upon members of the public.

Deputies assigned to CAU have made arrests for outstanding felony warrants, drug possession, weapons violations, and other serious felony charges.
