Vehicle Chase Ends in Harrisonville

On Thursday the Cass County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from Peculiar, Harrisonville, and Kansas City Police Department arrested one man who led officers on a brief chase around noon.

Just before 12:00 p.m. officers with the Kansas City Police Department contacted the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and advised that they were following a stolen truck from Kansas City on southbound US 71. As the vehicle passed through Peculiar on US 71, Peculiar Officer’s attempted to pull over the driver. The driver did not stop and Peculiar Officers chased the vehicle south towards Harrisonville. North of Harrisonville a Cass County Deputy used stop sticks to flatten the vehicle tires. After running over the stop stick the driver exited US71 at M291 where he struck a tractor trailer and Harrisonville Police Car. After striking the vehicles the driver continued south through the intersection onto US 71. Approximately 1/2 mile later, the vehicle with 3 flat tires, attempted to exit onto West 2 Hwy. The driver lost control and ran on foot a short distance before being arrested by officers.

The Harrisonville Police Officer was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital. The suspect is in custody at the Cass County Jail pending charges.

06-17-11 – Update

On 06-17-11 Steven Keener was charged with one count of Second Degree Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, one count of First Degree Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, and one count of Resisting Arrest by Fleeing. Bond was set at $50,000.00 Cash or Surety. Mr Keener is currently being held in the Cass County Jail pending trial.
